I've got ticket for the 19th. So that means I'll have to stay off the internet for two days. ;-))
Posted by The_Demon on 2015-12-07 17:12:55
Cant wait, just got one of my kids hooked on it, we've watched episodes IV, V, VI and I recently, but apparently, "These aren't the droids your looking for..." :)

Darth Jar Jar 4life!
(For anyone who doesn't know what that is, Google it and bask in the most glorious reddit of all time!)

Skipping school? But fractions and gym are soooo important in real life!

Sounds like you're one of the fun dads.
I will always remember my dad taking me out of school when Half-Life 2 came out and playing with me all day. I bet a decade from now your kids will remember being pulled out and getting to play hookie and see star wars.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU AS WELL!

I have failed parenting. My daughter does not want to watch Star Wars VII with me. :(
May the force be with you all.

I can't even begin to fathom how anyone can be excited for this after three crappy prequels, two crappy Ewok movies, and one crappy cartoon movie about Jabba's kid. There hasn't been a good Star Wars movie since 1983 and I don't know what makes people think that Disney and JJ Abrams are going to make this one good. It's like, no matter how many times Star Wars slaps it's fans in the face, they keep going back for more. I, for one, quit this abusive relationship a decade ago and am never going back. I have no plans to watch it and can only step back and look at all the people crying their eyes out at the trailer and wetting their pants in excitement for this new one in perplexed befuddlement. I have no doubt that if this ends up being the worst movie ever made, it'll still make a billion dollars and every person that whines about how awful it is will be lined up at midnight the day the next one comes out (in a year) and then the next one and the next one. I don't get it. I don't get it at all.

My kids are now too old to get excited about Stars Wars. I do have a small nephew though.
The trailer looks impressive. But will it be grimdark enough for post GoT teens?
I think that Captain Phasma is gonna have to massacre a load of younglings and Rey will need to get her kit off.

Bought tickets for Christmas Day.

"My kids are now too old to get excited about Stars Wars." <----- Yes your 65 year old kids should be too old for Star Wars :-)
"I do have a small nephew though." <---great great nephew :-P

Ha, MisterFurious living up to his nick! :-))
"I don't know what makes people think that Disney and JJ Abrams are going to make this one good"
The cast, the trailers, the ComicCon footage, the interviews, the way in which everything so far known about this movie screams "dear fans of the original trilogy who hated every bit of the prequels, this one's for you, this one will make it up to you we swear"? (NB, that's not yet to say it will, but it's very obviously the intention.)
Disney? Did Pirates of the Caribean (the first one). JJ Abrams? Did Star Trek: Into Darkness. If The Force Awakens is anything like either of those I'm going to be a happy critter. Plus. Name one bad movie Harrison Ford was in. I can't think of any.
Posted by dode74 on 2015-12-07 18:34:03
Dammit, you made me go buy tickets.
Posted by koadah on 2015-12-07 18:55:03
@Russo: What you trying to say? ;)
My sons are both older than I was when the first movie came out. I suppose that is not difficult for those folks who were not even born when it was released. ;)

I m so looking forward to this.
Btw, I may also install X-Wing Alliance just for the fun...

I listen to Hollywood Babble-On which is a podcast with Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, etc. Director). He is a massive geek. He was invited to the set by JJ and assures all that it is going to be kick ass. If you don't listen to it, it's really funny. I can't wait. But as Head Teacher Bill...taking your kids out of school to watch Star Wars??? I fully support that decision :D
Posted by Silent_Hastati on 2015-12-07 19:36:42
The #1 thing I can say that makes me look foward is when the Star Trek movie came out, the biggest complaint people had was.
"He turned Star Trek into Star Wars!" and that movie kicked ass, so yeah, this should be good.
Posted by mekutata on 2015-12-07 20:04:13
the star trek movie? i thought there are hundreds of star trek movies. every 2nd somehow dealing with timetravel.
and these last star trek movies with young spock and kirk were horrible.
and the last star wars prequel movies were catastrophies.
not even cyanide could to them worse.
Posted by pythrr on 2015-12-07 20:05:49
hehe, I remember queueing, as s six year old, with my mother and older brother to see the very first film.
so so good.
and then the sad disappointments of the 2nd trilogy.
one lives in hope for these last set.

Man, I didn't know the Darth Jar Jar theory and I've been reading this thread and the comments for almost an hour now!
It's brilliant, I'm totally convinced, it made me rethink everything about the Phantom Menace!
Posted by Angmarred on 2015-12-07 20:54:20
Glad someone enjoyed it! It made me rewatch the Phantom Menace and it was so much better :)

Damn, i remember my first cinema visit... it was Empire strikes back! That was great... Now, we have disney film! Hollywood, big pictures full of commerce...
well, a bollywood crossover would have been nice,
big pictures, passion and some hurrijapatpat music...
Posted by Arktoris on 2015-12-07 21:33:39
I predict the movie will be awesome and suck at the same time.
Posted by Royston on 2015-12-07 21:38:45
@pythrr you iz old! I wasn't even born when A New Hope came out.
Posted by licker on 2015-12-07 21:42:10
I grew up on Star Wars too, but then a funny thing happened.
At some point I became older and wiser and realized what an utter pile of shit it all was.
Enjoy it if you can, I'm already tapped out. For what it's worth, this is reminding me of Independence Day for some reason. So Arktoris is right, it will be awesome and suck.

The missus and I will be going along with another couple. I've offered to dress up as the crappiest Chewbacca ever by sticky-taping carpet samples all over myself...sadly the missus said this would result in the wedding being called off.
Posted by DeZigma on 2015-12-07 23:02:28
akaRenton, that was you chance... you could have merried your cat!
Posted by Dominik on 2015-12-08 01:00:25
I never understood the fascination for this as well as for Star Trek.
Posted by fidius on 2015-12-08 01:11:58
MisterFurious is right. And JJ Abrams will not do the prequel franchise justice, if Into Darkness is any indication. It will be a spectacle and critically acclaimed, but I expect to be disappointed. (I will see it though, unlike episodes II and III, which I will never see.)
Having said that, kids will love it and it's a great thing you're doing, BB!
Posted by pythrr on 2015-12-08 01:25:24
merry all cats!

Can't you get locked up for merri-ing your cat?

That Darth Jar Jar theory is just mind blowing, I am completely convinced

I too have spend too long reading about Darth Jar Jar today :P
Posted by ThierryM on 2015-12-08 17:07:13
My 5 year old daughter favorite is General Grievous (and she also loves Yoda I confess) !
But I'll wait a bit before heading for the theater with her, she might be a bit young if it's an adult vision of SW that JJ.Abrams gives us.
Posted by Verminardo on 2015-12-08 17:49:43
5 is a bit young even for the original trilogy if you ask me, but maybe I'm old-fashioned. ;-)
Posted by Wreckage on 2015-12-08 19:55:25
Just to clear up any ambiguity because there were some people here that said SW is all bad or all good, I'll explain it to you:
The old movies are all good, the new movies are all bad. It has nothing to do with your age. If you disagree, the problem is with you, not the movie.
The new movie could be good or could be bad. But recent history of the franchise doesn't instill hope. I still couldn't help myself and bought tickets.
Posted by Calcium on 2015-12-08 23:35:29
shutup Wreckage you joy sucking bag of Jar-Jar Binks crap....It's STAR WARS, and will be EPIC! (until it's not, then we will wait for Rogue 1 etc.)
Me and my boys are going to a midnight showing! \o/
Posted by keggiemckill on 2015-12-09 04:42:03
I am sorry to admit it, but never really cared for Starwars. I could rant on about why I dislike it, but I'll save that for another time. I probably won't see it until it comes out on PPV.
Posted by Grod on 2015-12-09 06:25:36
I saw a trailer for the new star wars. My prediction is it will be underwhelming. It seems to have gone in the opposite direction of JaJa Binks (a good thing so far of course) but to the point iy is taking itself far too seriously. A bit like the new Superman movie. This will be a bad thing.
Posted by Wreckage on 2015-12-09 14:06:51
Could you make an example of when it ever has been a bad thing when a film took its base material too seriously?
I mean.. based on a film that is actually released?
Posted by the_Sage on 2015-12-10 10:34:47
Going the 16th. Really looking forward. Darth Jar Jar would redeem a lot of the prequels imo (now if only they could find a good in-system reason for those horrible romantic scenes).
