Play 10 games vs. them in a row, then you may see the thrilling, variable tactics they offer. They don't suck, its just plain boooring to play vs. them. ;o)

It's not that people think they suck, people just don't like to play against them. They are relatively powerful at lower TRs (most of the team has block, but unlike Norse, they also have good armor - not to mention thick skull, all the tackle and cheap rerolls) Personally I don't mind playing vs them - they aren't the fastest team around, so agile teams can run away (if they can dodge away from tacklers that is), and bashy teams can just hit back. I find the trick to beating dwarves on offence is to pose multiple threats so they have to spread themselves out to defend. Dwarves at their best when they can stick together as one big Block, Tackle, Guard group. When they split up not so much.

Back in 1990 - 2nd Edition tabletop - I had a sweet new human team, all painted up in metallic blue and silver with black trim. First game was against some dwarf team that was painted as if by a four year old blind monkey. The dorfs killed 4 of my guys and SI'd 6 others.

I will always hate dorfs. I can respect the nuances of the race, but I will always hate them.

It's hard to explain. Perhaps it's something to do with most guys being insecure about the length of their manly parts. Dwarves are masculine, hairy, rock hard, thrusting but SHORT! Now, I've read all those articles about girth being important as well, but they always come across as insincere.

Plus all the "holding grudges for 500+ years" and living underground stuff is just a bit silly.

I don't think it is that they are overpowered, or anything like that, they are a very good team but they are just sooooooo boring, they are slow full of stand firm and just plain dull.

Tough team to win consistently with - not hard to play against, but it doesn't lead to the most exciting game ever either way.

I think people just have to dislike *something*. If you deleted Dwarves tomorrow, something would take up the most hated mantle. Like Amazons or Orcs, maybe. I think the addition of the Deathroller is fun.

I think the reason is the same as why people hate orcs. When you're new to the game you have no idea how to play vs dwarfs or orcs, and because they are 'easy' to play (because they don't die as much as others, and because at the noob stage you don't use tactics but just throw all your players at all your opponent's players and bash it out) they tend to win and therefore people hate them. You kind of build up a hatred for dwarfs and orcs during your early days of blood bowling, and then it just stays. For me, I've had changing views of which races are hardest to play vs. Of course, in the end, it comes down to what race YOU are playing. But all races can win against all races, with enough skill or luck. Personally, I don't find dwarfs that boring. It's quite entertaining to watch them all get tied up vs your zombies while a ghoul just flies by with the ball and scores! Or something similar with other teams that are faster than dwarfs, ie all other teams.

Dwarves are simply boring. Matches against them often end up with having to break a very slow moving cage riddled with guards, with opponents that are very hard to injure or KO while they are very good at hurting your own team. They don't really have many interesting special players either, so almost all dwarf teams are built the same way with loads and loads of mighty blow and guard. They are also a cheesy team concept since they are so extremely easy to maintain in the long run, which makes them very powerful in leagues designed with seasonal play.

It's not that dwarves are extremely overpowered (they certainly are against some teams, but not all), but rather that the matches against dwarves lack many of the parts of Blood Bowl which many find entertaining.

Personally I would love to see dwarves removed from Blood Bowl, or at least redesigned to something a bit more stimulating, like having players with some random traits that makes them less predictable and reliable.

Its all about the spps, you don't get very many cas spps vs dorfs and every time you score you have to line up on the LOS and get beat down by them. And they are no fun.. everything is super predictable vs them. Against orcs you can always try and rely on dodge to keep your players safe . Aggainst Cds you can always have some fun trying to beat the crap out of the hobbos.

The fumbbl-community loves pie, other that loves pie are halflings (which are also great at baking said pies), halflings biggest threat on the pitch is dwarfs.
Thats the reason many hate dwarfs, because they destroy the pie.

The idea that Dwarves are powerful in leagues with seasonal play is wide of the mark. They're draw machines, and whilst their developmental path certainly doesn't hit many massive lows, it certainly doesn't spike at highs either.

Any worrying looking high TR Dwarf team just gets the Wizzie treatment, simples. Winning a good league with Dwarves must be very tough indeed!

RC nailed it, I think. They are hard to spp against. You don't hurt many with blocking, and they are often out to grind out a low-scoring 1-0 or 2-1 win. 0-0 ties aren't that uncommon either if both coaches are strong on defense.

A 0-1 loss or a 0-0 tie where your only cas come from fouls and a pass or two...not what many coaches are hoping for when looking for a game, especially when the MB-laden dorfs drop 5 cas of their own on you.

You think dwarves only can be played in one manner? Look at the "Agility Monsters", the only [R] team I have. And if you're not convinced, spectate one of my games - I still don't know how to build a solid cage, but don't care much either. :-)

Ah well... and if you look at my loss-win-ratio you get an idea where it leads to. But it's FUN! Not only for me, but also for my opponents (most of the time).

(If you're really interested, you could take a look at my ranked statistics as well, since it's the only [R] team I had so far. Despite the losses I still have more than one touchdown and completion per game.)

Conclusion? "Agility Monsters" is a dwarven team worth playing against!
