DLE - Assesing SHC North before season 5
As usual at the start of week 3, our star reporters will be assessing the potential in the divisions that affect the Crimson Cascade, and they start right here with the SHC North.

Hertha: “Another season, the fifth for the league and the fourth for Crimson Cascade, and it seems to be the most interesting ever. Isn’t that right, Gunther?”

Günther: “It most definitely is so, Hertha. The teams are surely different, but most of them are very capable. Particularly the teams in our own SHC North division.”

Hertha: “Yes. SHC North was the best division in the league for the second season running if you measure in points taken from teams in other divisions. And all the teams seem to have been strengthened during post-season trades and the draft. However, even though the teams have improved, we still have this nagging feeling that the teams in SHC North have improved less than their competitors in other divisions."

Günther: “We do. But results from the first two weeks are encouraging, as the SHCN teams got 10 points all in all, only one point behind the best divisions, which was KFC South and surprisingly enough KFC West, who both had 11.”

Hertha: “Within SHC North, we still hold Wolfskins to be the best team. We guessed right last year, when we guessed Wolfskins as winner and Vikings as number two, and we believe that the same will happen this year.”

Günther: “Yes. And this even though Wolfskins are marginally lower in value at the start of this season compared to last season, while Vikings have greatly improved. Wolfskins lost three key players last season, however, as our own Janine von Meyer nailed their franchise player Clinton Porter and Patriots took out their strong lineman Bobby Massie. In addition, veteran fouler Art Monk finally had to retire due to multiple injuries. Olivier Vernons loss of agility was also critical for the Wolfskins. And although several players have improved their skills, none of these losses has really been replaced. Wolfskins had used all their draft capital before season 4, and the only new player in post-season is blitzer Luke Wilson, a pick #120 from draft 5. Thus, Wolfskins are not developing as well as they should.”

Hertha: “No. But there is still plenty of quality in the team. They have two strong and powerful blitzers in Vernon and Taylor and two strong linemen in Ansah and Richardson. Quarterback Cousins is arguably one of the top 5 quarterbacks in the league, and he has the league’s most agile catcher A.J.Jenkins to pass to. That will likely be enough for another divisional title. And if anyone doubted before the season started, Wolfskins pulled off very convincing wins against the Greenskins and the Wreckers in the first two weeks!”

Günther: “The most serious contender for the divisional title is, as last season, the Vikings. Vikings lost a play-off spot when they lost to our heroes in the epic week 16 game, but they have worked hard in the post-season and managed to increase their team value through trades and drafts. In team value, they are ranked #8, and thus higher than the Wolfskins at #13. We have the feeling, however, that many of the players are rather raw and the team needs to develop ways of working together. Except for Parker, the blitzers are all from draft 5 class, and they have also drafted a back-up quarterback and a new lineman, and Bilukidi arrived from Patriots and is also new to the Vikings.”

Hertha: “Yes. But their coach is one of the best in the league, and always has a trick or two to get the best out of his players. He has also done a fabulous job of rebuilding the team until they right now are the strongest in the division on paper, and there are class players here as star killer blitzer Juqua Parker, quarterback Stipe Lipican and the four catchers, who are all grizzled veterans lead by Robert Griffin III, who despite his injuries can pull off the most amazing stunts, like he did versus the Knights in the week 3 game. And they have a convincing run so far, with 3 wins and a draw. They will give the Wolfskins fight to the door for sure. Most likely, both teams will be found in the play-offs.”

Günther: “For third place in the division, we are somewhat sad to say that we believe Grizzlies will beat our Crimson heroes once again. They have improved their squad considerably, and combine veterans like Amaro and Kabluski with new eager players like Siffridus Draken from the Eagles and Kawann Short from the draft. Half the team has mighty blow, and almost everyone has Block, so they will surely make an impact on the opponents. The coach has improved his skills as well, and plays a well developed positional game.”

Hertha: “And so this means our heroes will come at fourth place, and should be happy if they can get an even record at 16 points. They have a solid team, but lacks strength and agility to perform the fantastic plays that other teams are capable of. They are mean, though, and 11 casualties in three games place them at second place in casualties of the 10 teams who have played their games in week 3. Janine has 7 casualties so far this season and every team needs to watch out when she is on the field.”

Günther: “And finally, for interesting divisional games to watch, the Vikings vs Cascade game in week 7 will be a slugfest for sure, Grizzlies take on the Wolfskins in week 8 and the fight for the divisional title between Wolfskins and Vikings will take place in week 9, last round before midseason. An exciting end to this part of the season, which we will follow with enthusiasm as always. Will you be there?”
