Jim (Reporter1): The
DLE team of
Broekwater Patriots finished the 1st season with 2 consecutive losses. Even though they got to the playoff, they failed at winning the title, even getting to the final. I have invited both the Field Coach and General Manager, as they are famous of contradicting each other, and will try to figure out what to expect from this KFC West team. They still have league MVP, Season1 Killer of the year award winner
Dont'a Hightower, so they should be in the hunt!
Jack (Reporter2): Exactly Jim! Broekwater entered a draft with glaring weakness at the Quarterback position. Lets adress that first. Coach, how do you feel about the QB situation?
Coach: I think it depends a lot on the development of
Matt Flynn, our 2nd round draft pick. If he develops well, then we will be OK. But let me stress that i would have been happier with
Robert Griffin III, or with
Ryan Tannehill!
Jack: Yes, it is an interesting storyline. You personally took over control, and traded for 2nd overall pick, sacrificing 1st, 2nd, and a conditional future pick.
Coach: I did what i felt is best for the team.
Jack: What happened then?
General Manager: Let me answer this question, and set it straight forever. We both liked those prospects, and wanted to have one of them. Just not at that price. I think the trade for the No2 overall pick was a sensible move, but after we got the pick, we reassessed the situation, and figured that the QBs we coveted are not the 1st or 2nd best player on the draft board. At some point it even seemed that one of them would fall to No13, then No8.
Jim: Did you follow those predictions, and made the moves accordingly? As we all know Broekwater traded No2 to No13, then from No13 to No8.
General Manager: Exactly! I wanted to give Field Coach the player he wanted, but at the price i felt reasonable.
Jack: What happened next?
Coach: It went into a completely different direction.
General Manager: I am sure this grudge is not for the eternity!
Coach: Mumble...
Jim: Pardon coach?
Coach: Sorry, nothing....Mumble....
Jack: Sure?
Coach: Staring back, not saying a single word.
General Manager: We got reasonable offers from another teams, which netted us additional 2st round picks.
Jim: So at some point almost traded out of the elite portion of the draft.
Coach: But we kep our eyes open for prospects!
General Manager: What happened is that we figured we cant predict the draft, and will trade for future 1st round picks, but trade back into the draft when we see value.
Coach: As our best QB was out of reach THANKS TO GM...
General Manager: (continues the sentence of the coach)...So we wanted to have Matt Flynn in the 2nd round if possible, and for the right price....
Coach: (continuing the sentence)...which luckily paid off...
General Manager: (continuing the sentence)...yeah, after the
Remas Eagles chose
B.J. Coleman, who has the same skill sets as Matt Flynn, according to our scouting department, we had to really work hard not to give away our intention, and not agressively pursue Flynn. At some point in the WARROOM coach Wreckage, coach of the championship winner
Flashfurt Universe taunted us that now drafting Flynn will be high priority.... But luckily even COACH was cool enough, and played along, which was nice to see after.... (looks around, does not finish the sentence)
Jim: Rrrrrriiight! What was the plan with the 1st round?
General Manager: I was on the opinion that we need to complete our defense, and give our coach a tru shutdown corner, what we did.
Jack: Rumors that you overpaid.
Coach: Mumbles...
Jack: Coach?
Coach: Yes we overpaid
General Manager: (Does not say a word, but looks frustrated)
Coach: We gave 2 2nd round picks, and the value chart suggested we should have got a late 3rd round along with the late 1st where we drafted
Gilmore.
Jack: Yes, i have the chart at front of me. So we agree about the value loss.
General Manager: Oookk...But it is still a critical piece. And we acheived what we wanted. Get additional future picks, which we have enough, and also got a QB, a shutdown corner....
Jim: And you upgraded the Ogre situation too!
Coach: Yup, but still an Ogre.
Jack: Coach, you are famous for your disdain about ogres, but
Mike Adams seems to have what it takes, and it was only a 3rd round pick! Great value!
General Manager: Originally i planned to draft Ogre in the 4th round, but Mike Adams was the only Ogre worth a 3rd rounder on our board, so we drafted him. He is great at blocking, and guarding the line. A VERY significant upgrade over what we had last season.
Coach: (Grabs GM) Time is up, we need to go to the 14 hour long staff meeting to discuss the .......Sorry, cant elaborate.
General Manager: Excuse me Jim and Jack, talk you later!
