Thoughts on the Alicante World Cup
So, I just got home from the airport after participating in the 5th NAF World Cup in Alicante. It's been incredible on so many levels for me. The location is beautiful, the weather was great for the entire week I was there. I'm glad it was in September with temperatures in the high 20s rather than full-blown summer heat.
The people in the two FUMBBL teams were all amazing beautiful people, and I could not have wished for a more lovely group of people. I had so much fun meeting up outside the tournament to have some food or a couple of drinks with all of them. I simply can't find the words to explain how special it has been to me on a personal level.
It's also been incredibly humbling to have so many people come up to me during the tournament to say how much FUMBBL has meant to them over the years (or that they recently found the site and are loving it). It's such a strange and lovely experience to be on my side of that conversation, and while people send me messages like that online occasionally, it's hard to compete with the personal connection you get when it's face to face. I only wish I could remember everyone who approached me over the weekend, but I simply can't.. To be perfectly honest, it was fairly loud during the event and I likely never even caught the name of some of the people who approached me; I'm sorry :)
While I know a lot of the people I met, and the people organizing the event don't frequent FUMBBL and likely won't read this, I still want to say thank you to all of you for being part of something that I will cherish for a very long time going forward. I don't go to table-top tournaments very often, but this one has made me want to do it all again and I very much hope to be able to participate in the next World Cup if nothing else.
Oh, there was some Blood Bowl being played as well. I played Skaven and played nine lovely opponents who were all amazing. I got a 1/3/5 result, and the team ended up with a 4/2/3 overall result. While I had hoped for a better than 50% record on a personal level, I've learned that I truly don't care where I end up. I did my best and had an amazing time even when I was losing my games.
