Coach Rating update
Earlier today, I noticed that the CR system has been running in a slightly broken state since the server migration. I won't go too much into how the rating system actually works in this post, but essentially the rating periods were not being rolled over as appropriate.
Since I needed to adjust some things related to it anyway to correct the broken part, I spent some more time and did a quick evaluation of the configuration. As a result, I have made a couple of changes to the system configuration:
- The rating period was adjusted from 2 days to 7 days.
- Initial volatility (sigma) is changed to 0.15 from 0.8
- The decay curve has been adjusted and now deducts 5 CR points per RD' over 100, changed from 2 CR points per RD' over 75
What does this mean though?
The big change has to do with how decay is presented. The rating period adjustment and the decay curve changes are both intended as a way to allow more coaches to maintain their CR in a "non-decayed" state and not have their CR be visually lower than it should be. At the same time, coaches who do stop playing will drop further down (a total of 250 CR as opposed to the previous 150). This makes it harder to maintain a "first page" position in the top coaches list unless you are actively playing.
In addition, the change makes it quicker to get back to your non-decayed state (the RD' you need to recover is now at most 50 instead of the previous 75). This is further strengthened by the volatility being increased, meaning the RD' score will change faster as well.
The overall time for decay to max out has not changed significantly with this change, and remains around the 6 months mark like before.
Feel free to get in touch if you notice anything unusual with this update. Be aware, though, that the CR numbers are likely to have changed, and pretty significantly in certain cases as well. The "unusual" things I'm looking for is bugs and not just any changes in absolute or relative CR numbers.
I am hoping that this change will be for the better for most coaches, and that those of us who enjoy the CR numbers and brackets have more to play for :)

Yesterday I was Mega-Star and ranked 20, today I'm Legend and ranked 8, thanks for the CR change, Christer!
I've noticed there are some numbers in green and red dots in the rankings page, I don't understand them, but the important thing is that my rank got higher after the change.

After some thinking, looking at the rankings page, the first green number is my games played in the 7-day period (yesterday I played 4 games and today 1, hence the +5), -39 is my CR lost in the 7-day period, +5 RD' I guess should be related to the fact I was active in the 7-day period.

I gained over CR100 points… I must have rigged the system unintentionally just before the update.. sorry about that, will play some games to get down to my correct level.

I have not played for weeks (life getting in the way) and as a result am rightly sliding down the rankings. I always thought that should happen, I'd just never seen it in practice! Looking forward to getting back involved.
