As the awful British summer has continued I have had plenty of rainy evenings and weekends to paint so have made good progress of the team.
I have now completed all 10 of the marauders, I stuck with the same black, gold and bone colour scheme with a few added red details here and there. These guys are split nicely between 5 "normal" marauders who all look quite similar and so have some sort of unifying theme, I can see them as being the LOS fodder. The other 5 either have bare heads, a skull mask or use different arms. I can see them as being the utility players so ball handlers and blitzers.
Since taking these pics I began to think the Marauders look a bit too neat and orderly to be a chaos team. Part of that is down to my usual clean paint style but also them being made from mostly fantasy empire greatswords. I have tried an experiment by painting deliberately messy numbers and chaos symbols on some of the chest armour so need to take pics to get some feedback before I varnish them.
I have also finished off the troll, I really liked the effect of giving the troll for the Orc team I did a pale belly so did the same on this player. I am really pleased with how the sudden transition from dark green hide to white flesh worked on his sides as it is tricky to get that to look "natural".
His clothes are a slightly darker bone colour to contrast with his skin and also I see him being the least clean player on the team.
I'm pretty pleased how he turned out so he gets 2 pics.
So all these players are basically done, I just need to decide if I should leave the numbers and symbols messy, take good pics and varnish them.
The one outstanding model is the Ogre, he is going to be the most demanding but hopefully also look the coolest. I have got him fully assembled now and started work on the involved task of greenstuffing him. I need to make his Inquisitorial power armour look more chaotic and less technological as well as an AV9 Ogre not AV10.
So I have given him a loincloth and bare stomach, plus bare arms and a shoulder pad from an Ork Killer Kan. I intend to add some of the spiked edging to his chest armour like he has on his legs. The helmet needs some more work and suitably sized horns. Most importantly he is striking a suitably macho pose.
It is not all good news on the progress front, the Slann team are going to be a lot more work to create than I had 1st envisaged. Since there is nothing really to compare them to aside from a few bits of artwork and some ancient models I need more time to get them just right. So I am putting them on the backburner, maybe them will be my 2013 GT team.
I still need to do a team for the
WISB 3 in September, but fortunately I have secured a full 2nd edition elf team complete with 2 cheerleaders and already have eldril. So I will be painting them up instead, I just need to decide on a good colour scheme.
