.pdf Wrangler?
Hello, all! I come looking for some help from the multi-talented FUMBBL user-base.

I need someone who can help us (the NAF) with compiling and editing .pdfs on an ongoing basis.

In the near future, we'll be updating and introducing new variant rulesets (an example) and in the future, any update we make to the NAF rules, sanction document or team list docs will need putting into a .pdf. For that, we need a reliable .pdf wrangler!

Are you someone who can help us? If you'd like more details, please drop me a line.

Cheers!

Phil.

there is some stuff I put here you may want to collect - http://fumbbl.com/help:Game+Variants

Hi Garion,

Thanks for this.

I don't know if you're aware of the NAF offerings re: variants, but we currently support and provide rulesets for Sevens, Dungeon Sevens, Street and Deathbowl. Some of your links there appear broken or not as per the NAF variant, which is fine, but we have just completed a process of review and none of these four are changing very much at all as people enjoy using them.

We also support Beachbowl and Dungeonbowl and will be publishing rules that we current only recommend to TOs soon. Again, these are pretty set already.

We're adding Deathbowl 7s and Draft soon. These aren't on your list, so I'm not sure there's much there to learn between us!

https://www.thenaf.net/blood-bowl/variants/

Please feel free to add that in if you feel it will help. Variants are ever more popular and I'm enjoying seeing people use the rulesets!

Cheers.

cheers, I will tidy up the links later, at work at the moment, I think i made that page around about lrb5 era. There is also a deathroller racing style game kicking about somewhere. I will see if i can dig it out.

That's all cool (yey more things!), but from a NAF POV we've just completed our process and are set for 12 or (more likely) 24 months. Should DR racing go big in the community in 2020, we can look at that, but for now, we're probably only going to host the stuff that we support / provide rules for. :)

Sorry to spam your blog, but i keep remembering stuff. There is also Beach Bowl, All At Sea, and Jungle Bowl variants I can send you if you like? for future reference.
Posted by Purplegoo on 2019-04-12 13:43:18
We have Beach covered and there is presently no membership desire that I’m aware of to add the other two to the database. There has to be a critical mass to these things before it’s worth the time and effort setting them up!

You can send them on to me, by all means. But to be clear, NAF’s plan with variants isn’t to list, host and rank every variant ruleset that someone has come up with. As I’m sure you can imagine, that’s time consuming and we want to have an element of quality control (not a dig at anyone or anything!). The stuff we end up supporting is popular with an element of the membership, has been well enough playtested and the rules put through our review process. While Jungle Bowl (whatever that is!) might be fantastic, no-one is currently asking for it and there isn’t a group furiously playing it to the best of my knowledge.

I think your page you’ve made there is much more suited to being a collection of variants out in the big wide world. I don’t think the NAF site is the ideal place for rules we don’t support. It can happily sit in my inbox, but I’m not looking to be a collector myself either. ;)

Dunno if this helps.. but just yesterday we had a near domestic in my house when I kept suggesting to my wife that she merely 'print' her edited .doc file so she could then e-mail it as a .pdf.

"I DON'T want to print it, ass-hat." She would say.

"Cutie, Sweetie, Punpkin-Pie, if you print it, and select the printer you want to use a "Miscrosoft Print to PDF" instead of the printer in our basement named, "XD33-4499-XCOM", then it will let you save your doc as a PDF on the computer desktop, or elsewhere. All for free. Just make any changes to your .doc you want, and print it as a PDF."

"WTF are you talking about? Did you just fart in the kitchen?"

We stopped discussing computers at that point. I made her a PDF while she was in the bathroom, not pooping. She was happy.

Heh. :)

There’s a bit more to this than simply making a .pdf or two, but I enjoyed the story! There’s a bit of beautification / design and some more involved stuff than I can manage. While I’m a Luddite, I can just about print to .pdf. ;)
Posted by The_Murker on 2019-04-13 00:37:28
Yeah, understood. But I have been surprised by how many of the programs and file formats that I do use to beautify things have the final option to print as a PDF. I use lots of cheapo programs to maintain and alter some of my stuff, like newsletters, then I publish in PDF for free this way, just to avoid having to purchase an "expensive" and not so familiar PDF editor.

Best of luck!

It doesn't get more reliable than Adobe Indesign. However, you may not like the price model.

I've been using Adobe alternatives for Photoshop and Illustrator from Affinity, which are reasonably priced and have pretty decent user interfaces (as opposed to the open source equivalents, GIMP and Inkscape). They just released their "Publisher" into public beta which might be worth a look. I haven't tried it myself though, but at least it might be worth taking a look if you don't want to pay for the de-facto standard Adobe product.
