Where are the 2-1 grinds?
This is just another quick question post. Responses from almost everybody are appreciated.

As of this writing, I have played 42 games on fumbbl. By my count, only five have ended with a score of 2-1. My impression after my introduction to Blood Bowl through youtube was that 2-1 is a common score. Obviously just looking at my own games is a small sample, but other final scores have been far more common. The most frequent score in my games is 1-0 (twelve times) and the second is 2-0 (eleven times). So is the proverbial 2-1 grind actually typical?

Most of my games have been played with tweener or grindy teams. If I was playing faster or more agile teams, would 2-1 be a more common result? All of my games have been in ranked. Is 2-1 more common in other leagues or environments?

Sal-utations

The races you have played do lend themselves to 2:1 grind, but the thing is 2:1 is a strategy, it doesn't mean the score actually winds up there. If you score first and your defense is good then it's not 1:1 with them grinding, it's 1:0 with you on the advantage.

If you steal the ball or prevent their score, you can have a lot of 1:0 or 2:0 games where you stall out the 2nd half. Maybe that's what you're seeing?

Licker is absolutely correct; a 2-1 score is the goal. Especially when you are playing against an agile team. But most of the times one turn can change it from a 2-1 grind to a 3-0 win. A lot of coaches, once they go down 1-0 tend to be hasty and loosen their cage and try and press to tie the game; this ends up with them losing 1-0 much of the time.

Maybe one should add, that in a tournament environment, where two advanced or better coaches face each other, the 2:1 grind is a way more prominent result than on this site, where casual gamers are playing, too, that still have to learn about general tactics and how to deal with specific situations.
(I think this can be seen as the essence of licker's tactical approach and NerdBird's hasty-coaches approach)

One of the base strategies (very prominent, but there are others) is 2-1 grind. People aim for it. Then Nuffle looks down to the dice, and diverts us all. Hail Nuffle!

2-1 is not particularly common. no more common than 1-0 or 1-1.

Lots of games are decided by a successful steal and score and/ or by preventing the opposition from scoring. The 2-1 grind is an important idea because it gives a way to win with out needing to do either of the above. You win simply by pacing your drives better than your opponent.

The 2-1 grind basically comes when one coach aware of this strategy faces one WHO is not. The unaware coach will then take the fast easy score his opponent willingly allows him. And then it's an easyish 2-1. When both coaches are aware of this, like on fumbbl, it's much less likely to happen. Defence becomes more prominent as does oneturning. I'd rather lose 2-0 trying to get a 1-1 if i don't think i can stop my opponent, rather than giving him an easy 2-1 grind. 2-1 grind is a pro vs noob strategy mostly.

"2-1 grind" is a term for this philosophy:

When you have the ball, try to stall out and score late, so the opponent has no time to equalize. When you don't have the ball, try to force a quick score (if you can't steal the ball or stop them from scoring) so you can score on offense.

It doesn't mean all your games will end with a score of 2-1.

you don't need to 2-1 when you can just kill all mens

2-1 grinds can be boring if they get the chance to be played out like that however Nuffle or brave coaching on the steal stop this. Not going to lie but in tournie play the aim most times is a to stall the whole half when attacking first but its up to Oppo to stop that from happening.

My main problem with Fumbbl are when either myself or oppo get diced. These are far worse and less enjoyable than a "2-1 grind"

Also remember, all of those 1-1 ties you have had, would be a 2-1 score if going into OT.
