A Dozen Retirements
In Blood Bowl, coaches have the power to hire and fire team members. There is plenty of good advice about hiring and team value management. However, firing developed positionals requires good judgement. All of my retirements due to injury are listed below. Retiring a rookie with a long-term injury is a pretty easy decision if the team has a healthy treasury, so the comments will focus on the experienced players that were retired.

Retired Players
  1. Pick Up -AG human thrower
  2. Pieter Zeeman niggle human lineman
  3. WL Bragg niggle human lineman
  4. Enrico Fermi -AV human blitzer
  5. *Niels Bohr -AG human blitzer with mighty blow
  6. *Green Pork Fried Rice -MA orc goblin with side step
  7. Green BLT on Rye -ST orc lineman
  8. Green Bacon Flavored Bacon -MA orc blitzer
  9. *Green Fried Bacon niggle orc blitzer with +MA
  10. *Delofthenes -ST undead mummy with guard
  11. Lysias -ST undead zombie

* Not rookies.

Niels Bohr (-AG human blitzer) was a pretty good at smashing with mighty blow. The treasury was healthy, so I bought a a replacement. However, the team has other players to handle the ball, and my blitzers don't dodge often as they are pretty good at taking a punch. I think this decision was correct in context, but I think a keep is justified if cash prevents buying a replacement immediately.

Green Pork Fried Rice was a goblin that should have had sneaky git not side step. I was planning on firing him as soon as he got any lasting injury. This decision was the easiest of the non-rookies.

Green Fried Bacon is my only real regret due to the +MA. Niggle on AV 9 is a smaller problem (mathematically speaking) than on AV 7 or 8. The team has two other of +MA blitzers and an overflowing treasury. The treasury was the deciding factor at the time, but I rushed the decision. Would you have fired Green Fried Bacon?

Delofthenes had guard and -ST which is a rough injury for a anybody on the LoS. There have been a couple of occasions that ST4 guard would have been better than my rookie with ST5. Nevertheless, my instincts tell me that this decision is correct as ST5 is most of the mummy's value.

Those are the most interesting retirement decisions so far. Careful readers will notice I only listed 11 above. My twelfth retirement is coming up on my dark elf team, Arsenal of Elves. I have a lineman Pilin and a blitzer Glamdring that are both -MA. The team is very poor, and I can't afford a replacement blitzer yet. I think the correct thing is to keep the lineman and fire the blitzer as soon as I have cash to replace. My shopping list also includes a third reroll and a witch, but I think that the blitzer is more important. So who should be my twelfth retiree?

Niggle is the least of your worries. Imo niggled good players can stick around.

I'm not a big fan of retiring injured players. Or rather i'd say I'm a fan of keeping injured players. AnywIay -st is as good as dead in my book (safe for low strenght high agility high movement players with doubles or +stats).

Rookies should always be fired if you can afford to rebuy. Linos might be fired even if you can't afford a replacement, depending on context and plans.

I think all your retirements were correct. The closest calls were the -ag mb human blitzer (just one skill, I would've fired him, too) and the +ma orc blitzer. +ma orc blitzers are golden, because speed is what the roster lacks. But since you already had 2 more, it was probably right to fire him. I don't really mind niggles THAT much, I have 1 niggled legend (pro elf catcher) 1 niggled superstar (pro elf catcher, got the niggle pretty soon in his career) and one superstar ghoul with 3 (yes, 3!) niggles (he's ma9 ag5 tho).

All of those are on ranked tho, blackbox is stricter. Orcs take a bad beating against claw, so you probably don't want to spend spps skilling a niggled player.

I think you made all the correct decisions there.

On the Dark Elf team I would fire the blitzer right away. I would also consider firing the runner. You need to invest too many spps on him right now for him to become good (blodge, leader, sure hands), and you really would be better off investing those tds in your blitzers (xpecially the +ma needs dodge asap!).

Keep the lino, he's good for los duty.

As soon as you can hire the fourth blitzer, then save for a witch.
