There is bad press about every big sporting host before every games / World Cup / global event. Brazil's stadium construction deaths, India's Commonwealth Games facilities. London's riots. But the homophobic spin coming out of Russia should make the IOC pretty ashamed right now.

But we'll go back for the World Cup. FIFA should make a stand. But money talks.

Russia does indeed censor the Internet. They have a blacklist; mainly child porn/drug-related/illegal activities/extremist material, but that includes things like blocking wikipedia because of the articles about drugs. And they've also carried out filtering of social and political information, banned religious sites like the Jehovah's Witnesses (although that decision was overturned), and can request removal of individual posts on social media sites and youtube. Failure to comply and remove the content, or at least block access to it in Russia, could lead to the whole site being blocked.

But, to be fair, that's pretty similar to the situation in the UK now...

Man this much noise about the Winter Olympics, next event to be hosted in Russia? World Cup (of the football, soccer to our friends across the pond, variety) in 2018.....I imagine that will get an even bigger shoeing in the media.
